Maintaining your focus on the job is essential, especially if your employer has downsized and is relying on you to shoulder added responsibilities.
Constant disruptions such as the phone ringing, email, clutter, and/or talkative co-workers can take a toll on your ability to stay on task, not to mention your stress-level!
Increase your production level and demonstrate your value by adapting the following habits:
- Clear your desk of paperwork, files, and clutter, with the exception of the project you are working on.
- The above also applies to your computer desktop; close out any programs you are not working in. Close out your email if you are really in a crunch to complete a project.
- Eliminate personal phone calls, emails and chatter.
- Step away for a five minute break once an hour, and don’t skip lunch!
- Allocate your time by creating a to-do list.
- Make sure you get adequate sleep, exercise, and strive to eat healthy!

Sleep...it’s such a simple concept, yet how often do we deprive
ourselves of healthy slumber? Snatching up a few extra zzzzzz’s to
compensate for one or two hours of lost sleep here and there is
usually not a problem. But missing four or more hours of sleep in one
night or even in one week can take its toll, requiring several days or
an entire weekend to replenish sleep debt.
Adequate sleep (more than 6 or 7 hours per day/night)
decreases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, stress and
depression, to name a few. It increases the ability to focus, have
mental clarity, and is conducive to a safe working and driving environment.
So make sure you get your zzzzzz’s. The people around you
will be grateful!
