Catch the Buzz

Brad Dunlap, Insurance Recruiting Specialists

Motivating your employees is critical to the success of your organization. In order to survive and thrive in these bleak economic times, companies need 100% effort from employees. Therefore, you should implement a plan to measure staff performance. This program should be communicated to your employees prior to their evaluation period. Since employees need to understand your expectations, performance-measuring methods must be clear. Feedback, in the form of constructive criticism, will help employees stay on track, and positive reinforcement will fuel their fire.

A "dangling carrot" will always encourage your staff to work
harder to achieve their goals. Wherever possible, illustrate to a team
member how a particular accomplishment impacts the organization
as a whole.

Personnel take pride when they can see a direct correlation
between their efforts and a company's success. Motivated employees
make an organization truly greater than the sum of its parts!

All the best,

President, Insurance Recruiting Specialists

Constructive Criticism For
Giving Constructive Criticism

An employee should walk away from a performance review feeling
positive and goal-oriented, not devalued or demoralized. Here are a few
step-by-step suggestions for creating a productive interaction:

  • Know what you’re going to say before you say it. Be clear and to the
    point.
  • Start out by focusing on the positives. Praise their work on a recent
project. Let them know they are valued.
  • Be straightforward about points needing improvement, and focus on
    solutions and goals.
  • Remain open to their comments and suggestions.
  • Follow up and provide positive feedback when warranted.
